illustrator issues with Tiger

topic posted Sun, December 4, 2005 - 7:52 AM by  ::brian::
so, i got macaroni and ran it. restarted, and also ran the verify permissions check, etc. nothing has changed. illustrator opens, but as soon as i select "new" or "open" it closes. the error message reads,
"Mac OS X and other applications are not affected.
Click Reopen to open the application again. Click Report to see more details or send a report to Apple."

any ideas? i attempted to copy and paste the pref folder from another "user" but that didnt work either.

i am dieing without illustrator! its funny how i used to be scared of it and only used photo shop, but now i use illustrator more than anything.

let me know if you think of anything.

thanks,

b

a couple of things you can try:

    1) login through another account on your machine -- if you have the same problem in that account, then it's a problem with Illustrator. if the problem goes away, then it's a probably a conflict with something else.

    2) re-install Illustrator. make sure you have all the latest updates.

    3) zap p-ram on your machine and restart.

Could be more correct to state that Tiger has issues with ai files, if you know what I mean. Have you tried another illustrating program?

I doubt that, MarK. I use Tiger and have no issues with AI whatsoever. Sounds like a preferences problem. As Ray suggested, zapping your P-ram can help.

There're other illustrations programs? For reals? *hee hee*

sometimes deleting prefs manually can help. all the preference files and plugin cahces are in the folder:

          /Users/<user>/Library/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS2 Settings/

deleting the whole folder is what i do when i get stuck. it can help.

definite trashing the prefs is the first thing to do anytime you experience a problem with any Mac program. 90% of the time it'll solve your problems without the hassle of a reinstall.
