Re: how to vectorize pixelimages in illustrator CS?
Tue, June 20, 2006 - 4:26 PMI believe that the live trace option is a new feature to CS2. Earlier versions just had auto trace and to be honest it was something I never used. To convert Pixel images into vectors I would take them into Adobe Streamline which was a whole another program and do it there. i beleieve that Adobe decided to no longer support Streamline and instead added it functionality into Illustrator CS2. -

Wed, June 21, 2006 - 8:12 AMI remember using Streamline many years ago, but at some point I discovered
that Photoshop did a much better job, and gave me a lot more control of the results. -

Wed, June 21, 2006 - 10:26 AMI used Silhouette on illustrator 10 for a long time and it does color! I dont know if it works in CS though... it was a great plugin before Live trace was an option.

Re: how to vectorize pixelimages in illustrator CS?
Wed, June 21, 2006 - 7:01 PMI used to use Photoshop convert to paths option too. Especially when I needed to make clipping paths. The only major problem I had with it though was that it would often make too many points. At one point the printer I would send it to would say too much and just drop the whole image completely. This is a common problem with a lot of conversion software. I found that none of them beats drawing it yourself. Still some times you just need to vectorize something. -

Re: how to vectorize pixelimages in illustrator CS?
Thu, June 29, 2006 - 10:05 AMIt is called live trace and it works really well . It is actually in itself worth the upgrade to CS2 . If you want to learn how to use it give me a pm and I will give you a few tips it is pretty easy once you get the hang of it . It isn't perfect but when you need something quick it is great . It mixed with Live Paint rock !! -

Re: how to vectorize pixelimages in illustrator CS?
Sun, November 12, 2006 - 3:52 PMAfter trace use the smooth path tool too remove some points then tweak to your liking. Also somtimes helps to fiddle with contrast of image in PS.
If you want it done right the best way is to become proficcient with using the pen tool and drawing the paths manually.
