Im not sure if I quite understand. You have previous saves, or you were saving over the file when it crashed?

I was saving over the file when it crashed . When I preview it it shows the info that was there but i can't get it to open . I run a Mac G4 dual gig and osx with CS if that helps more define it . I am staring from scratch again due to the time but I wanted to finsih another 2 designs . WTF !?

well, I hate to say it, but this is a prime example of why you should save multiple copies in various stages.

I always save whenever I make a major change to a file, and append it. By the time I am finished with a project there will be sometimes 10 or more files: Dec-postad-01.ai, Dec-postad-02.ai, etc as well as Dec-postad-FA.ai or final art. Thats also handy if you ever need to go back and reuse the project with some changes.

Thats not to say that it doesn't suck when it happens. I am afraid I dont know of any way to fix it.

You may want to look into Norton Unerase. In older versions at least, because illustrator supports multiple undos, it creates these temporary copies of the files you are working on. They are invisible but some times can be found with unerase (which treats them like accidently deleted files). I was able to use this for looking for projects that unexpectedly gone "poof".

                I'd dump the Apple.

I a, not interested in this becoming a Mac vs. Pc because I use both . The crash originatd due to a power outage because a truck ran into a pwer line !! I get very few system crashes ever on my mac which I wish I could say for my PC system !!
