Hey all...
I use Illustrator at work for very limited applications. So please, be kind :)
What I'm doing now is creating "labels". I have paper stock of a specific size (let's say 5.5" x 11.5")
So essentially what I'd like to do is create my logos and such within that size and then print that size. Does this make sense? Can you help?
Also - I'm using CS2 and I keep having an issue. I can close files, but when I go to close Illustrator I always get "this program is not responding".

Re: Question from a novice
Tue, March 7, 2006 - 10:30 AMAll you need to do is go to "File">"Document Setup" and change the width & height to match the exact dimensions you need. Then, when you're ready to print, change the information in the "Media" section to match the size of your paper. You should also click on the "Setup" button at the bottom-left corner of the "Print" window and change the information under the "Paper/Quality" tab.
As for your "Program Not Responding" issue, I can't really help you with that. Sorry. -

As for the not responding, it seems to happen when I run Illustrator with Outlook open, so for now I just close my email before I open any files. -

Re: Question from a novice
Wed, March 8, 2006 - 5:48 PMUgh... Outlook is a huge resource hog. So is CS2, but I digress.
You might try this:
Launch AI and go to Preferences > Plug-Ins and Scratch Disks. Change your Scratch Disk from Startup to C. This allows your entire hard drive to become your scratch disk, not just the startup folder. You can set secondary scratch disk to C: as well. Or another drive letter if you have more than one hard drive. Close AI and relaunch the app for the changes to take effect.
If that doesn't improve performance, the do the following:
Delete your Illustrator preferences. They are located in Documents and Settings\ [user profile] \Application Data\Adobe\Adobe Illustrator [version] Settings.
If that doesn't work, get a Mac. ;-)

Thu, March 9, 2006 - 10:07 AMYou might try using Mozilla Thunderbird instead of Outlook.
Most everyone I know has switched to it.
